Our Goals:
Charity United Methodist Church Preschool is dedicated to providing a Christian environment in which children can develop wholesome self-images, feel loved, and be equipped to meet the demands of school and life.
Our purpose is to help each child, in partnership with the family, to reach his/her full potential mentally, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Our Philosophy:
We believe that if children are allowed to explore the world around them— to play, to paint, to sing, to listen, and to question— they will develop readiness for school and other life experiences.
Program and Curriculum:
Our program strives to follow the guidelines set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning provide the framework for our curriculum and daily schedule of activities which are designed to meet the needs and interests of children at their age-level as well as their levels of readiness. You can find a copy of the foundation books here:                                                                                                                                                         Classes and School Calendar:
We offer classes on either Tuesday and Thursday; Monday, Wednesday and Friday; or Monday thru Friday.
We accept children between the ages of 2 1/2 and five years old, based upon their age as of September 30.  Our school hours are from 9 AM to 12 PM and 9AM to 3PM, and our school year goes from September through May. In most cases, we follow the Virginia Beach City Public Schools calendar for closings.
Each class is staffed with a teacher and teacher assistant, who have been carefully selected for their backgrounds in Early Childhood education and for their sensitivities to the individual needs and feelings of the young child.
Classroom Routines:
All of our classrooms are set-up with high-interest learning centers which develop children’s language, fine-motor, and social skills. There is also time for teacher-directed activities such as group time and story time. We also provide playground time, except during extreme weather. Snacks are brought by each child. A non-denominational chapel lesson is provided each month.
Field Trips:
We enjoy many field trips in order to broaden children’s experience and add to their developing language skills. Parents are welcome to join us.
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.”
